Infrastructure

The A22 is one of the main transport routes between the Po Valley and Central Europe. The motorway forms part of the A1 motorway network and extends to the national border, connecting Modena to the Brenner Pass and continuing on into Austria andGermany. The motorway is 314 kilometres long and crosses through four Italian regions: Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol, playing a strategic role in the movement of people and goods along the north-south European corridor.

Service areas

There are 22 service areas along the A22, 11 in each direction, spaced at an average distance of approximately 30 km. Catering and fuel supply services are run under sub-concession by operators selected through a tender process and are open 24 hours a day.

Autostrada del Brennero carries out regular checks on service quality, prices, cleanliness and hospitality standards. In the event of non-compliance, corrective measures or the application of contractual penalties are envisaged. A redevelopment programme is currently underway regarding the improvement of facilities, the introduction of new services and architectural enhancements in keeping with the local character. The works include the upgrading of energy efficiency through the installation of solar panels and new technologies, as well as an increase in the number of electric vehicle charging points. The service areas can also be viewed online, with information on services and prices.
